Underdog Rescue Fundraiser 2018
This was my third year volunteering for the annual Underdog Rescue fundraiser. This organization is near and dear to my heart because I helped my grandparents find their rescue bulldog Sweetie who came from Underdog. Underdog was founded in 2000 and focuses especially on saving dogs who come from commercial breeding facilities (more commonly known as puppy mills). These dogs often come with a different set of challenges. They may require additional medical care, socialization and teaching of basic dog skills even though some may be adults. Sweetie was a perfect example of this, as she had been used as a "breeder dog" to produce litter after litter of puppies. Once these "breeder dogs" are no longer useful, they are auctioned off which just breaks my heart. Thankfully, Underdog Rescue is there to help!
My favorite thing to do is to volunteer in the Puppy Pen which is what I did today. I control who enters and exits because we don't want any escapees! And let me tell you, that is no easy task with a bunch of energetic puppies running around, ha ha! I also educate people on Underdog Rescue's mission and it is a lot of fun. This year was particularly fun because there was a CORGI PUPPY in the pen. His name was Mack and he was just about the cutest thing I have ever seen. My arms hurt at the end of the day because I was holding him so much. I was begging my mom to take him home but he already was pending adoption. Which is good news, but I wish he was mine! I can't wait to do it again next year!
